[Abstract] With the continuous development of computer science, the future application system will be mainly built on the object-oriented, distributed, heterogeneous and autonomous computing environment The system consists of many distributed objects, each of which has specialized functions. Objects can communicate and cooperate with others in spite of the differences of networks, protocols, languages and operation systems. The paper introduces the development, feature and existing problems of several leading computing models, discusses detailedly the principle and implementation of multi-tier application, functions of application server, component and software bus and CORBA technology. Architecture of component based on CORBA is proposed. It utilizes the software component and system service provided by CORBA. Functions involving component management, transaction process and integration of DBMS can be implemented by this schema. At the end, the paper makes multi-tier application architecture based on application server of CORBA component to development of Management Information System for the Power Enterprise, and describes the whole development process for above architecture in detail, at the same time, analyses the advantage and insufficiency of the system.
