In recent years, the WWW has been developed very quickly. The web-based middleware, which provides the functionality of information exchange and transaction handling, is the key of WWW technology. With the development of WWW, the enterprises need a systematic architecture, which can be from industry-standard protocols, to integration with popular IDEs, to a robust framework for secure two-phase commit across heterogeneous data sources. In this dissertation, the research and application of middleware technology in web-based enterprise information system are investigated systematically. The main contents studied are as follows:We introduce the conception, characters, classification and the research of middleware technology in the world. Then, we review the process of application system from 2-Tier client/server architecture to 3-Tier client/server architecture and compare them. We also analyze the application of middleware technology in 3-Tier client/server architecture, then, present the research contents of the dissertation. We introduce popular object technologies such as EJB, COM/DCOM/COM+, and CORBA, then, compare them. Generalize that CORBA has no relation to the language and platform and is the most flexible and utilizable. In the dissertation CORBA and its work patterns in multi-tier distributed system are investigated in detail. Prove CORBA is benefit to oriental object application in theory. We deeply explore the feasibility and scheme of building web-based middleware system by Java/CORBA. Then demonstrate the Object Web architecture based on Java/CORBA. Use UML to investigate and design CORBA and generalize the prime steps of oriental object model by UML.In the end, we developed an e_bank system with Java/CORBA technology. With developing this system, we introduce the thoughts, methods and steps of constructing a java/CORBA middleware application system in detail.
