The deve1opmClltal direction of modem design and manufacture is integration, intelligentized and auomatic ultimately It requires the information of products modelmust be describe shaPe and performance during its exist. Whether integratingCAD/CAM or implementing CIM, featUr-based design contents the requirement ofinformation, Which the products model need. And people consider it as one of the keytechnique realizing the integration of the CAD/CAM and CIMS.The paPer mainly researches on the problem of information share in the CAD/CAMintegration; a method of building a featUre mode1ing system based on AutoCAD is given.Aiming at aPplication, It analyses the feature of box parts and establishes a regular box'feature database on the theory and method of featUre modeling, gives the classificationand relationship of box parts' feature, proposes the information model of a regular boxparts. SynchrQnously, the tCcboque that aPplies feAn coding for feature and orientationsurface makes parts provides with suPemal signification.Base on the above work, again developing feature library serving the reducer boxparts on the p1atfOrm AutoCAD which is used Wdely by people, utilizing the developingtools ObjectARX and AatoCAD system which operates the entity in model to frame the3D feature modeling system. During design a regular box parts, aPpending themanufacture and process infOrmation illto feature in comPany with modeling theproducts shaPe. It is commonly practical idea that operating feature instead of operatingparts entity and local parts make products' information sttuctuFe mect the requiremeni ofessential information that the CAPP system need.
