Traditionally, two alternatives are usually employed to determine the dielectric property of particles. For a specific substance, the dielectric constant of blocks directly measured is taken as that of particles, or the dielectric constant is accurately obtained after these particles are pressed into pellets. However, neither of the dielectric constants via above two accesses is the practical one because the contribution of air to the total dielectric constant is involved to a large extent. In addition, some external factors, such as the content of moisture in particles, the error brought about by equipment, will all make a difference to experimental results. In this dissertation, a new set of approach to the dielectric measurements of particles has been proposed and developed to eliminate both the unfavorable effect of air on dielectric constant and the error in the measurements. The mould for the measurement of dielectric property were designed and prepared. Three methods are selectively exploited for different nature of particles, and the final error could be controlled within 10 percent in the tests. For example, all the three methods for T102 and the former two methods for starch~ 5i02?Fe203 have indicated that the various results are correspondent for the same kind of particles. It could help to solve the hard problem in dielectric measurements of dispersed ER fluids particles. We found in the experiments that the dielectric constant and conductivity increased with the doping content of rare earth in modified T1 ~ After a critical point, both of them decreased. It showed that 搕he optimal effect may be acquired by suitable doping of rare earth?A miniature controllable high-voltage power source has been ameliorated and made for the application in ER technology. About 10 kV of high voltage electrostatics can be gained by input of only 6V cell. Its?steadiness, duration, undulation of output go up to the requirement of ER technology. Moreover, it has the advantages of small volume, simple structure and low cost.
