With the development and progress of the society, the new media, replacing the traditional media, has changed social life, interpersonal communication and social administration significantly. Marxist ideology is confronted with unprecedented challenges and development opportunities. How to adhere to the dominant position of Marxism is of great significance for building a well-off society in an all-round way, construction of contemporary Chinese society and adhering to the leadership of the communist party of China in the new era. Dominance of the Marxist ideology in the new media era is challenged by popular thinking, social opinion control, interference of social ideological trend, and the like. In the aspect of popular thinking, audiences’ thinking tends to be diversified and utilitarian. Lack of independent thinking and confusion of value uniformity pose a new problem for the consolidation of the dominant position of Marxism in ideology. Circumstance of social opinion control becomes unprecedentedly complex. New problems arise with interference of peaceful evolution power abroad and influence of public opinion from domestic interest groups intentionally and unintentionally at home. In the new media era, people face challenges of diversification, rapid spread and low cost of ideological trend. To embrace the challenges, a new multi-media platform should be fully used to spread and popularize Marxism. Meanwhile, the platform can be used to spread socialist core value. Besides, in order to consolidate the dominant position of Marxist ideology under the general background of rule of law, the construction of legal system should be strengthened in the field of new media.
