In recent years, infrared imaging system has been widely developed in military, medical and industrial fields by its outstanding advantages. However, the structure and principle of infrared imaging system are complicated, so it has high initial cost and long research cycle. In order to reduce cost and shorten the research cycle, the theory of infrared imaging system performance evaluation has been greatly developed. After the evaluation, it is possible to estimate the ultimate index of the system before it is really developed. Additionally, with the development of computer-aided design, some researchers presented the approach of picture simulation of infrared imaging system, which could generate the output image of infrared imaging system by computer. Elsewhere, the similarity of the output image from the computer simulation system and the image from the real infrared imaging system has become important for the evaluation of the simulation system.This article introduced a quantitative model to evaluate picture simulation of infrared imaging system. It would demonstrate the evaluation approaches of picture simulation of infrared imaging system in the following angles. The first phase mainly focused on the similarity degree of the output image from picture simulation of infrared imaging system and the real infrared imaging system in the view of human visual system(HVS). Secondly, the evaluation approach concentrated on the temperature difference between the objects and background of the images and then gave the definition of probability of detection. Thirdly, evaluation approach focused on the degree of texture similarity from objects and background of the images. The texture features will be generated by Gray-level Co-occurrence Matrix(GLCM).Through the analysis and researches of the three evaluation methods above, this article made a comparison within them and proposed the direction for the further development of the evaluation of picture simulation of infrared imaging system at the end.
