Infrared technique has been widely used in both military and civil field. Many developed countries compete to develop infrared technique due to its special characteristic and importance in military application. Infrared simulation technique is an important branch of infrared technique. The infrared images which can't be obtained due to many restrictive conditions can be generated using computer simulation. And the software simulation of infrared imaging becomes possible using computer as modern scientific and computer technical development.As the wide usage of infrared image simulation in military application, the simulation for aerial target and background is an important trend. Therefore, this paper presents the classification and primary principle of infrared imaging as the beginning of the mechanism of infrared imaging, and determines the infrared imaging simulation technique of aerial target and background as research range, and the procession of infrared imaging transmitting in the atmosphere and the synthesis of the infrared image consisting of target and background as subject investigated.In the infrared image simulation research of airplane target, the geometry model of airplane model is built using 3DMAX software, 3D heat balance equations of target surface chips with infrared imaging models of infrared targets with low and high velocity are built based on heat-transfer and infrared indication primary principle respectively. Zero stadia infrared imaging of airplane target is then simulated and generated using the semiempirical approximation simulation methods.In the infrared image simulation research of cloud background, the statistical characteristic of wavelet coefficient of real infrared cloud background image is analyzed. And then the statistical analyses of input real infrared images are done using the curvelet transform and steerable pyramid wavelet transform technique. Two statistical characteristic of wavelet coefficients are obtained through above analyses. And then the infrared image of cloud background is simulated based on the above conclusion. In order to obtain the better effectiveness of real infrared image, we have studied the influence of infrared target simulation imaging transmission caused by atmosphere through many classical MODTRAN models, and which is then synthesized with the infrared imaging of cloud. Finally, infrared simulation imaging consisting of airplane target and cloud background is generated.
