The applications of Phased-array radar in the field of military and civilian is being more and more. Particularly, active phased array radar have many characteristic, such as beam rapidly scans and agile, multi-beam forming, and conformal radar platform. These characteristics offers great potential of the active phased array radar’s vigorous development.The research contents of the paper comes from a developed products of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation No.38 Research Institute. The products have made many requests on the radar antenna, such as:transmit and receive beam lobe requirements, and sum-difference beam monopulse angle measuring functional requirements,and so on. The paper anylised these requests, and given amplitude-phase distribution of the beam-forming network. By comparing the advantages and disadvantages of unequal distribution power divider and lossy power divider, and considering actual work characteristic, the paper select the lossy power divider as receive beam network. In the simulation and design work, the paper made the merger and integration methods which can be used in engineering practice. Through the thematic test of chip resistor Π attenuator and microstrip vertical transition, the paper obtained real experimental results and constructed experimental basis for network design. Finaly, we designed and manufactured sum-difference beam network which meet the requirements of the system.The research contents of the paper can reduce the equipment number of the active phased array radar, and reduce the costs of systems. The experimental results of chip resistor Π attenuator can also be used to topics and projects which need high-precision fixed-attenuation.
