Tianjin Yishibao, which was founded in October 1,1915, had a history of more than a hundred years. As one of the four major newspapers in the Republic of China, Yishibao was a very important newspaper in the history of journalism in modern China, and had far-reaching influence. In the twentieth century, with Japan constantly provoking a variety of incidents in China, Japanese ambition of aggression completely bared, Tianjin Yishibao often published incisive commentaries, showed a firm position on the problem, became the anti-Japanese pioneer at that time.Based on the analysis of Yishibao, author presented the public press action of the opinion mobilization towards the mass incident of’boycott of Japanese goods’, and discussed the principle of public mobilization through two important press factors, content and layout. In respect of content, the process of public mobilization was analyzed step by step from the view of news report, emotional mobilization and rational mobilization. In respect of layout, this thesis focused on the strategy of Yishibao’s layout and text structure. By combining the two factors, the thesis showed the deeper relationship between public press and social mass incidents on public mobilization during the period of the Republic of China.This thesis focused on the wave of boycott of Japanese goods around Mukden Incident, based on the collection of source materials and further research, thought about the mobilization of public press aiming at the boycott action.To further study the vertical and horizontal change of Yishibao in the process of’boycott of Japanese goods’, this thesis investigated the significant effect of newspaper on mobilization, as well as its complexity of multi-subject, multi-meaning and multi-level, starting with the research of social group behavior. Consequently, showed how Yishibao developed under specific social environment.
