The ethnic documents are the carriers to record national history and culture. It is also the important means of researching the development of history and ethnic characteristics. Owing to all kinds of reasons, the ethnic documents have been destroyed. Protect the ethnic documents well, which is an important guarantee to promote the national prosperity and cultural diversity.Dehong autonomous prefecture located in the southwest border and its economic development level is low. But numerous minorities live there, which culture is diverse. A large amount of ancient books, fairy tales and narrative poem scattered in Dehong autonomous prefecture. They are important nation’s cultural wealth. Under the situation of low economical development and the impact by foreign culture, cultural ecological environment is being damaged. A variety of traditional skills are acquired by the old, whereas the traditional skills and the ethnic documents are in the risk of lost because the youngsters don’t want to learn.In this paper, we can get the current situation of ethnic documents in Dehong autonomous prefecture by analyzing the difference between counties and departments and field research in Dehong autonomous prefecture. Traditional protection of ethnic documents focused on paper documents. This paper based on the basic concept of document, the protection of ethnic documents has been expanded to paper, oral documents, artifacts and folk artists, which distinguishes the traditional protection. The idea of protecting ethnic documents has been expanded in this paper. The premise of protecting ethnic documents is protecting the cultural ecological environment, which is also emphasized in this paper. This paper put forward that introduce social capital to realize the industrialization of cultural originality when lack of funding in protecting ethnic documents. Incorporate ethnic documents’ protection and exploitation into social and economic development. The exploitation of ethnic documents links to tourism, real estate and publication. The development of Dehong autonomous prefecture could be guided by the ethnic documents.
