The museum is an important field for collecting, preserving, researching, disseminating and exhibiting the material and intangible heritage of the human and human environment.Under the cloak of the "Cultural Palace",it is also a non-profit organization that serves the society and its development and is open to the public. Therefore, paying attention to social development and helping to solve social problems is the incumbent responsibility of the museums. This includes the protection of traditional handicrafts that are on the verge of disappearing.Traditionally, the focus of museum work has always been on "material culture".In recent years, with the international emphasis on the protection of intangible cultural heritage, there are more and more calls for museums to act.Participating in the protection of traditional handicrafts is a manifestation of the museum's initiative to assume social responsibility, and it is also a positive action for its expertise to protect human precious cultural heritage.Firstly, this paper takes "the definition of museum" as the starting point, and reviews the history of the"museum concept"since the birth of the museum from a historical perspective, and clearly points out that the museum should assume social responsibility.Turning the focus from"things"to "people"and recognizing that"serving society and its development"is an important change in the museum's self-positioning.As a non-profit cultural institution that relies to a certain extent on the support of public finances, museums are responsible for society and the communities in which they operate. They should help people with practical actions and have a positive impact on society.Secondly, this paper describes the "Responsibility of Museums in the Protection of Traditional Handicrafts".In the face of many traditional handicrafts that need to be protected, museums can play an important role as an experienced heritage protection agency. In the special context of the museum, traditional handicrafts can be effectively protected through recordability, inheritance, and cooperation with the community. However, many museums only stop at"promotional education",which is a question worthy of reflection.Thirdly, this paper explores the issue of how museums protect traditional handicrafts through a case study of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Museum.Using field interviews and news reports, the author conducted a detailed analysis of the details of the "National Weaving Training Program"led by the museum. The plan has achieved good social benefits at the cultural and economic levels, embodies the initiative of the museum to take responsibility in the protection of traditional handicrafts and actively take action. In the following parts, this paper refines the"Guangxi Museum Experience"from the case of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Museum:the museum takes the role of the leader and cooperates with the most suitable partners to jointly protect the traditional handicrafts and bring positive influence to the society.Although there may be many challenges and obstacles, similar museums in other parts of the country can still learn from the experience of the Guangxi Museum, seek outside support and help, and try to improve the living standards of local people while protecting traditional handicrafts. Finally, this paper introduces the specific practices of the Welsh Folklore Museum and the Hangzhou Handicraft Living Exhibition Hall in protecting traditional handicrafts, and points out the importance of the two experiences of"cooperating with the community" and "dynamic handicraft demonstration".With reference to the above-mentioned "Guangxi Museum Experience",it provides a reference method for domestic museums to protect traditional handicrafts.
