On Laozi 's Thought Of Communication And Its Value

With laozi as its representitive, daoism always advocated a government which governs nothing.In the spring and autumn period which is full of turbulence and change,the society brought frequent wars and the ideological trend of pursiting of fame and fortune.Under this background, the true state of "people" was covered resulting in the lack of spirit losing, spiritual emptiness.The ruler making the country rich and its military force efficient was not for his people, but for expanding the power and territorial expansion, facing with this reality, Lao-tzu explored the means which was from outside to inside, from the inside to outside the self analysis and ascension to achieve ambition of running the country and self-cultivation.Some people think Lao-tzu objects to communicate because Lao-tzu advocates "naturalness", "inaction" and "no contest" to grasp the relationship between human being and nature and sparkplugs that human being ought to attain the conducting ethics of "tranquilization and peace" by "inaction" and "no contest".Analyzing and discussing the communication thougth of Lao-tzu not only enable us have a deep understanding of the communication concept and communication behavior of the ancient,but also can provide solutions to solve the communication dilemma for now. Based on the perspective of communication and the analysis of the background of Lao-tzu’s communication thoughts,this paper researches Lao-tzu’s communication idea from the four aspects of media, audience, communicators, communication strategies.And we find that Lao-tzu put forward the communication concept of "wordlessness", "no abandon", "plain","being modest".These idea is valuable to revisit communication activities and the problem on how to achieve communication.Lao-tzu was not against the communication, but presents a different paradigm of communication and methods. Although it is not mainstream, this concept exists in every human heart, and always guides us to make us self-check, self- analysis and obtain the spirit of self salvation at the crucial moment.
