The reliable and safe operation for industrial boiler, as a kind of special pressure vessel, can provide premise and guarantee, so it is necessary to monitor the real-time state parameters, among which the steam drum water level is one most important characteristic. The conventional way to monitor the liquid level value is to combine the differential pressure transmitter with the visual observation of operators while the model will carry with the subjectivity and work strongly with the low efficiency, so some sugar production enterprise has put forward the intelligent remote viewing system that can substitute the traditional way to artificially monitor and read the level value to reduce the working strength of the operating personnel.The paper has given out the machine recognition process about the liquid level meter image by the research and implementation to the hardware of the intelligent remote viewing system, the digital image processing algorithm and the software. It has given out an improved anisotropic diffusion filtering with the analysis of some algorithms for the Gaussian filter and the P-M model of anisotropic diffusion filter and so on; It has given out an improved Otsu algorithm with the analysis of the Chow-kaneko, the threshold segmentation, the Otsu and the quick Otsu threshold segmentation and so on; It has given out an adaptive image brightness adjustment algorithm on the impact of the image quality with the bigger live video illumination change; It has given out an ESNI digital character recognition algorithm with the analysis of some algorithms for the SAD and the NCC template matching algorithm. The simulation and the realization of program prove that the method is feasible and effective above. It has given out a comprehensive judgment method with the analysis of the causes and effects about the value of the glass tube level meter false water level on the fault of the liquid level transmitter.The remote viewing system based on IPC for boiler glass-tube level meter will improve the degree of the equipment intellectualization and can preliminary meet the practical requirement. But, some work should be continued, such as perfecting the image processing algorithms and improving the robustness of the program to further develop the embedded image sensor.
