The network self-made drama reached its climax at 2014, as it became the main part of China’s online video sites and got transformed and upgraded. This paper mainly expounds the motivation of the hot. Firstly proof that the network self-made dramas are competing with dramas, then analyzes the external factors and internal participants while studying what cause the hot.Firstly, externally from four aspects:political, economic, social-cultural and technological changes, this paper mainly focused on the government regulation, attention economy, cultural turn and network technology changes. Ease market access is one of the faces in the government regulation, which are most concerned about the regulation of online video industry and the relationship between the government regulation network and self-made drama shows by a map of political movements. The importance of network self-made dramas increasingly highlights the self-made content, which becomes one of the most important parts of online video sites by adjusting content strategy to achieve the second and third layer value of audience’s attention in the attention economy. Both producers and consumers are influenced by the cultural turn that they prefer the fragmentation and entertainment in the vision social which provides the network self-made drama hot with a good social environment. The technological change precipitated the transform of the audience’s identity and status. Compared with drama, the network self-made drama can fully mobilize the enthusiasm of the audience which makes it easier to accept.Secondly, this paper scrutinizes how the production organization and main body of consumption bring up the network self-made drama hot. The competition is unusually fierce, so the video sites change the development path to adjust the developing strategy and content strategy to advancing core competence and advantages in competition to get more profits. The advantage of network self-made drama is obvious when it becomes the signature of online video sites. The post-80s and post-90s are the main body of consumption and they are the target audience of the advertiser as the immense consumption potential, so it is necessary for the online video sites to produce for them on the purpose of getting more profits. Demand-driven watching is approved in accordance with the usage and satisfied theory. We can say that the hot network self-made drama is the interaction resultant force of the production organization and main body of consumption under the complex background.According to the different characteristics of the different research contents, we use different research methods. Based on the PEST analysis method we analyze the roles of the external factors from political, economic, social-cultural and technological parts by using literature research method and quantificational analysis method. The present competition situation of the online video industry is described by using the Porter’s Five Forces Model and the psychological motive of the audience to watch was discussed by structural analysis and psychological analysis.
