More than80%of human perception of the outside world comes from vision,and the human eye can obtain information more quickly and accurately from colorimages compared with grayscale images. Sometimes people couldn’t get color imagesof a scene in application fields such as detection, military, medical and others, so, thecolor transfer process is very necessary for grayscale images, it can improve therecognition rate of the eye. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a color transferprocess between infrared and color images, which takes a shorter time and caneffectively result in images with natural color, and also provide a convenient methodfor hardware real-time process of infrared images. The research contents of this thesisis listed as follows:(1) Based on analysis of the color transfer method by domestic and foreignresearches, and compare with the advantages and disadvantages of the mainstreamcolor transfer methods, it is concluded that the color transfer based on lαβ color spaceis not suitable for real-time process for hardware.(2) Study on the color transfer based on YCbCr color space. The effect for colortransfer based on YCbCr color space is same as color transfer based on color space.The color transfer based on YCbCr color space can reduce the computationalcomplexity. At the same time, a very simple brightness matching menthe is used, andthis method took a shorter time and can effectively result in images with natural color.So, the YCbCr space is more suitable for hardware processing.(3) Develop the color transfer program based on YCbCr color space using SDKprovided by a thermal infrared imager, and real-time is achieved on the infraredimager.
