Newspaper supplement is influenced by the flourishing business culture and mass culture of modern Shanghai deeply. The founding of the newspaper supplement was influenced by the civic culture market and catering to the public taste, then it turned into one important kind of cultural consumables.This paper selects<Newspaper> as study objection, which has a long historical standing, the largest circulation and the most stability on content. The study will be in the framework of the theory of the mass media and mass culture, to explore the relationship of the Newspaper supplement and the mass culture. Though the study, this paper found that the<Kuai Huolin> and<Benbu supplement> used a large of utterances to write and construct the urbanism. It presented a different city, at the same time the editors and the readers have built a common "public space" together. In the "public space", the editors and the readers interact fully and it offers a platform to the readers. On the platform, the readers can discuss the real society issues, training the civic consciousness and fighting for female discourse space. The serial story was restricted by the civic culture market. When the newspaper supplement satisfied the citizen stratum’s affection need, it also reflected the civic culture of that time.Through the study this paper found that the<Kuai Huolin> and the<Benbu supplement> have changed with the changing of civic culture and the cultural market from1927to1937. And these newspaper supplements presented the civic culture and the urban writing in different stage. Before the "918incident" and "813incident", the<Kuai Huolin> took a leisurely style and catered to the civic taste, moreover it participated to construct the tea time. At the same time, the<Benbu supplement constructed the consumable space, serving as the consumer guide. In1927to1937, the newspaper supplements criticized the students who making no progress and enthralling the fashion style. The newspaper supplements also lashed the worship of money and the inequality of the urban. Not only the content of the newspaper supplements changed, but also the novel that published on the paper has changed. The changing is influenced by the cultural market and social environment.Obviously, the newspaper supplements have presented the Shanghai civic culture and civic life from different dimension in the1930s. And it influenced the civic cultural consuming, cultural mentality and the changing of civic consciousness unconsciously. So, the newspaper supplements were an important way to study the civic culture of1930s in Shanghai.
