The main problem of multimedia transmission technology to be solved is how to ensure network bandwidth utilization and user viewing experience in complex wireless network environment. Adaptive streaming technology can dynamically adjust the bit rate multimedia resources according to network resources and client circumstances, can solve the problems mentioned above. Therefore, in this paper, study of mobile adaptive streaming solutions. Based in-depth study of the primarily content of MPEG-DASH standard in the latest ISO standard and adaptive transmission strategies, designed a adaptive algorithm of which is based on MPEG-DASH, and implement the adaptive algorithm on the iOS platform.This article first to research and analysis the existing protocols for mobile streaming media transmission, compared the advantages and disadvantages of RTP/RTSP and HTTP protocol, choose adaptive streaming media transmission technology based on HTTP for research. Next, study the existing HTTP-based adaptive streaming technology, including Microsoft Smooth Streaming, Adobe’s Http Dynamic Streaming, Apple’s Http Live Streaming, MPEG-DASH. Analysis several advantages of the previous techniques, combined with wireless network compatibility features and platforms, choose MPEG-DASH standard as a research subject. Then in-depth study of MPD file, segment formats and media presentation in MPEG-DASH standard, and the optimization of adaptive streaming standards were analyzed. Based on the discussion of existing time slice, throughput, random decision algorithm, proposed a new improved adaptive algorithm, which improves the transmission efficiency in transmission start-up phase and buffer is limited phase. Finally, the new adaptive algorithm design and implementation on the iOS platform, and through the test results show that the proposed rate switching strategy has good transmission performance and user experience.
