In recent years, the global health crisis is more serious due to the aging populationaccelerated sharply and the medical costs continue to vicious inflation. The bodybecomes part of the communication network because of the emergence of the WirelessBody Area Networks can effectively monitor the human body health. It is regarded asone of the key support technology that can solve the sharply accelerated aging populationand medical expense hyperinflation.Wireless Body Area Network(WBAN)is also a kind of wireless sensor network, generally using batteries to supply power. But the energy resources are finite. Themovement of the body can also bring the change of the channel quality. So energy is onekey factor that restricts the development of WBAN. It is especially important to reducethe network energy consumption and prolong the life of the network by designingeffective communication protocol. In WBAN, the RF part of the sensor consumes most of the energy. The MACprotocol plays a significant role in controlling/duty cycling of RF module and reducingthe average energy consumption of the sensor node. This thesis expounded the mostimportant attribute of a good MAC protocol are energy efficiency and Quality of Service. The different kinds of MAC protocol were illustrated and compared.and a conclusionabout the proposed WBAN MAC protocols was also made.Network topology is a reaction of the relationship between each element in thenetwork. It is the first step to construct wireless body area network and the basis for theimplementation of communication protocol. It has a significant impact on the networkperformance, reliability, communication expenses, etc. Routing protocol is mainly usedto send packets from the source node to the destination node in the network. During thisprocess, routing protocol can find the optimal path between source node and destinationnode, and then transfer packets on the optimal path. In WBAN, the number of sensornodes is bigger and its energy is finite. At the same time, due to the particularityenvironment of the human body, developing efficient routing protocols is imperative. In this thesis, we analyzed the network topology and routing protocols in detail. Thewireless self-organized network and its two kinds of typical routing protocol AODV andDSDV were discussed. While the WBAN topological structure model was finally constructed based on thehuman body signs parameters measurement, the innovation points of this research weresimulations about the performance of classic Ad Hoc AODV and DSDV routingprotocols in WBAN with the network simulation software NS2. At last we made acomparison and analysis on the end-to-end transmission delay, packet loss rate andthroughput with different transfer rate and packet size. All those work provided a certaintheory basis and reference value for the application of the classic routing protocol inWBAN.
