Newspapers "theme Reports" Practical Research

"Theme Report" is a brand-new practice of reporting which has been widely applied in party newspaper in recent years. It is generally recognized that "Theme Report" in effect is an intensive, continuous and substantial reporting activity focusing on the deployment of significant strategies and decisions of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Government. As "Theme Report" effectively conveys policies of the CPC, facilitates practical work, motivates the people and directs public opinions, it has functioned as a new platform or vehicle for propaganda about theoretical lines, guidelines and policies of the CPC.This dissertation provides certain insights into "Theme Report" in the following three aspects:Firstly, this dissertation tracks milestones of the development of "Theme Report" such as its emergence and prevalence, by way of retrieving information from People's Daily, and innovatively defines the "Theme Report" by use of the agenda-setting theory from the point of view of journalism and communication. Furthermore, this dissertation discusses the theoretical background to the development of "Theme Report" in party newspaper, based on the positioning and functions of party newspaper.Secondly, this dissertation analyses the current status and features of "Theme Report" through its form of expression. This dissertation studies People's Daily, Jiefang Daily and Nanfang Daily by using methods of contents, specific cases and comparison analysis, to understand and grasp the basic status of the current "Theme Report" and various features of the "Theme Report" reflected by party newspaper with different positioning.Thirdly, this dissertation analyses the leverage point of the "Theme Report" magnifying its roles, based on the special character of the party newspaper as the administrative instrument. In addition, this dissertation discusses new situations and new issues arising from the development of the "Theme Report" under new circumstances and creates concepts and methods to innovate and improve the "Theme Report".This dissertation depicts achievements arising out of analysis and researches for the "Theme Report" practice in party newspaper, and looks to any contribution and benefits to the improvement of the "Theme Report" applied in party newspaper.
