Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has been widely used in logistics managements access control, intelligent authentication and so on. Though RFID makes our lives more convenient and effecient, the security and pravicy issues of RFID arouse more and more concern. Those problems are the main bottleneck for RFID application. The security requirements of RFID tags are anariyzed in this paper, and a novel security scheme based on AEC cryptographic algorithm is proposed to improve the security of ISO 18000-6C protocol. First, the authentication protocol can prevent the attacks of tracing, counterfeiting, unauthorized access and tampering, and the key distribute and manengement mechanism based on the trusted third party enhances the security of the whole system. Second, the data encryption mechanism based on the OFB mode of the Block Cipher not only improves the data encryption efficiency, but also reduces the tag cost. Finally, the security enhanced tag is verified on the FPGA platform, and the whole tag chip (including the RF end) has been taped out on SIMC 0.13 EE process. The whole chip area is about 1×1.2mm2, with 0.7×0.3mm2 digital baseband. According to the simulation and verification results, the tag chip can work in both the standard ISO 18000-6C mode and the security enhanced ISO 18000-6C mode.
