In April 2006 and January 2011, the two visits of President Hu to the United States drew close attention from the media in both China and America, which is reflected in the great amount of detailed and intensive media coverage in both countries. Many topics, which are of concern for both sides, were presented and discussed in the media reports, including economics, politics, culture, international orders and so on. These reports are good indications of how both China and the United States view the relations and attitude they have towards the other party. As time has passed by and the international situation has changed, there have been many variations that have taken place in the content of publications on the topic of these bilateral relations, which reflect the trend and characteristics of the development in international relations. This article will take the approach of analyzing the relevance of media and international relations through comparison of reports on the topic of President Hu's two visits to the United States from the media in both China and America. At the same time, the changes of covered topics in both countries before and after both visits will be discussed in detail, in order to find out the characteristics for the development of these bilateral relationships. From the point of view of international relations theories, particularly from the main arguments of peaceful transfer in the Power Transfer Theories, the interactions between China and the United States were discussed in three main dimensions. These include economical exchanges, political backgrounds and understanding of bilateral relations, aiming to unveil the major changes that have taken place in this China-US relations between 2006 to 2011. These changes can be mainly concluded as the increased amount of positive interaction, as well as an improved view of these relations. This article shows that the powers in many areas within these two nations have been moving towards peaceful transitions and there is almost no possibility for intense conflicts or wars. This is a very positive trend that will be beneficial for the stable development for both countries and the international community. Thus, China should view the development of these bilateral relations optimistically and try to take initiatives in the interactions between the two nations. At the same time, China should also keep the direction of peaceful development and try to become a more positive and effective influence in the international community.
