Ratings reflect the percentage of television viewers. After the development of 25 years, ratings are more widely recognized and applied in the television industry and advertising industry. Ratings survey is based on Demographics and communication research, which is a strict and scientific system. Advanced techniques and methods improved ratings investigation industry following after the appearance of western commercial institutions. There are many books which gave a detailed introduction on the history of ratings and investigation means. Around 2009, some experts and professors published papers on media magazine and related issues, focusing on the topic of ratings, discussing on the survey, industry and especially on the using of ratings.In my paper, I will card from three respects as following, the concept of ratings, the process of investigation and the application of ratings. Based on the results above, I try to dig out the interests of chain behind ratings. Meanwhile, I am going to analysis how ratings influence on audience. Finally, I plan to discuss several solutions to break the chain.
