With the improvement of people's living standards in China, traffic problems by the increase of the vehicles are prominent: serious traffic jams, difficult management, lacking vehicle monitoring and accompanying air pollution. From a lot of literatures and projects and the successful experience on transport management in foreign countries, we could draw the conclusion that with the construction of ITS in the city,business management and service level of traffic system could be improved. Based on what mentioned above, we have designed an intelligent GPS and GPRS-based terminal, by which vehicles can contact with control center real-timely. Consequently, the vehicles could be managed in a uniform, efficient way, which would improve the situation of distributed vehicles, reduce the operation cost and contribute to a low-carbon environment.The system in this paper is presented on two aspects: hardware and software. the whole process of the design of intelligent terminal is noted. Both hardware and software design is discussed, and debugging result is made out . out.In the chapter of hardware design,the Micro- processing chip and selection and Interface design of Key hardware modules need to be noticed in the design are discussed. Windows CE system used in this system is introduced briefly as well.In software design, a protocol used between outer and inner modules is customized and achieved as required. Compared among existing wireless technology, GPRS is chosen. AT instructions are used for communication between vehicles and control center. Location acquisition module is implemented by GPS and GPRS modules, and its development flow is presented. An improved algorithm for automatic announcement which bases on Cohen-Sutherland line-clipping algorithm is proposed. In view of the existing fact that roads in city are narrow and adjacent bus stations are close, we put forward a dual-rectangle region algorithm which decides the route direction by the sequence of collection points. Against the problem that vehicles frequently transfer to another route and track refreshment in control center is not precise enough, this paper proposes an automatic dual-directional dispatch algorithm. At the end of the thesis,the debugging of hardware/software is explained and the terminal sample is shown.With several time's modifies and tests, the terminal's function is all achieved, included Real-time monitoring, Precise stops, Speeding remind and so on. Now the intelligent vehicle terminal is used for test on the bus in JuRong city...
