Mobile Ad Hoc Wireless Network (MANET) is a multi-hop network with non-fixed infrastructure. The node in MANET can move freely and be self-organized quickly. MANET can be divided into two categories: flat structure and hierarchical structure. Hierarchical network is more scalable than the flat one. According to the configuration and hardware support of the node, hierarchical network can also be sorted into single-frequency and multi-frequency. Hierarchical routing protocol is the key to hierarchical networking.Based on the study of the existing Ad hoc network routing protocols, this dissertation proposes a double-frequency hierarchical routing protocol (DHR). It borrows the clustering and layering ideas from HOLSR, and puts forward a kind of judgement mechanism and a solution on concussions problem when nodes switching among different clusters which is caused by node mobility. Compared with OLSR, The DHR effectively reduces the control message costs because of transmission of control packets restricted in corresponding layer and TC messages forwarded only in intra-cluster. In the meantime routing overhead of DHR is much less than OLSR, because nodes only need to recalculate the routing informations in this cluster and nodes in other clusters don't need recalculate when the topological structure of one cluster changes.According to the research of DHR protocol, this paper designed an implementation scheme and programs on Linux OS. It built a double-frequency hierarchical ad hoc experimental network, testing the establishment time, mobility management and maintain of clustering and hierarchical routing, which are including the function and performance of node dynamic accessing, leaveing and moving in inter-cluster and intra-cluster. Experiment results show that according the scheme proposed by this dissertation, nodes can be self-organized into network quickly and effectively. Even if the topology of network changes,the network still can keep continuous communication and the control costs are lower than plat protocol.
