Agricultural Sciences And Its Western Agricultural Dissemination Of Research

Agricultural Journal, created by the shanghai Agricultural Science Society which was organized by Luo Zhenyu, Jiang Fu,etc. in 1897, lasted for ten years, was the first special agricultural journal in China. Agricultural Journal, as a new media form, can still maintain long life, which was indeed a special case of the newspaper at that time.In view of this, using data statistics, comparison, and literature analysis textual research, this thesis makes further study from such aspects as media forms, editing strategies, communication mechanisms and content to clear its important milestones in the history of China's journalism and communication and agronomy. Comprehensively surveying those literatures related to knowledge of agriculture in comprehensive journals in late Qing Dynasty before Agricultural Journal. Theresults show that agricultural knowledge in these journals appears in a fragmented way and single article. Agricultural Journal, as the first professional scientific and technological periodical, introduced western agricultural knowledge comprehensively and systematically for the first time.Western agronomy in Agricultural Journal was classified into agricultural basic science and agricultural application science. Agricultural Journal introduced such agricultural basic science as Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Physics, Agricultural Chemistry, Agrometeorology, Agricultural Biology, Pedology, and Fertilizer Science, etc. In addition, Agricultural Economics, Agrometeorology and Agricultural Chemistry is new knowledge which never appeared in the other journals. Agricultural application science contained Crop Science, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, Plant Protection and Pathological& Entomological Damage, and Agricultural Products Manufacturing, etc.Subjects it introduced are more complete, and constitute the basic framework of modern agriculture. On the strategy and mechanism of dissemination, Agricultural Journal, adopting a unique way of arrangement, assembled those agricultural articles translated from the western countries into Agronomy Series in the light of different disciplines, to realize secondary dissemination. Members of agriculture association were both editors and readers. Moreover, Agricultural Journal they founded was often used as teaching materials, and then students also became its audience, finally the agricultural knowledge was actively popularized and taught by squires to the ultimate target, the peasants. Consequently, this formed a multi-level communication model, including agriculture association, Agricultural Journal, agricultural schools, squires, and so forth.Agricultural Journal systematically introduced Western modern agronomy system through Japan, injected new knowledge elements into Chinese traditional agricultural system, by means of unprecedented mediums, realizes the transmission and blend of the western modern agronomy systems and Chinese traditional ones. Moreover, labeled with the application of western modern natural science in traditional agriculture, the journal, for first time, systematically makes agricultural scientific technology become more meticulous in a large scale, accordingly formed the watershed of Chinese ancient and modern agronomy, and formed a prototype of Chinese agricultural knowledge systems in late Qing Dynasty. Not only in particular style of media form, but also in total content disseminated and integrity of system of agricultural knowledge, Agricultural Journal achieved unprecedented historic leap, all of which contributes to pave a solid foundation for China's modern agricultural system.
