As the result of the combination of nature and humanity, greenbelt has been congsidered one of the most important parts of city ecological system. So,the function of the greenbelt has Received more and more take seriously. Along with the expansion of urban construction area and the increasing complication of land classification, better management for greenbelt has been raised by now.Compared with the disadvantages of traditional ways of man-made investigation such as long period, high cost, omission site, unreliable result from different investigator or different period of investigation, investigation with high resolution remote sensing technique could provide us with much better capability of space discrimination, wider monitoring area, replaceable of operators, swift data collection and computerization, and thus has been widely used in city afforestation investigation, monitoring, evaluationg and management.Starting from the basic knowledge of remote sensing on city greenbelt and then the relative theories on geometric correction, enhancement and classification of image, data collection of city afforestation by extraction in steps, by comparison with greenbelt aera data extracted from DMC/QuickBird images in urban area of Kunming city in 2005 and 2007, the writer analyzed the changes of city afforestation and pointed out the advantages and disadvantages of the changes and finally achieved city afforestation dynamic monitoring.
