There are opposite views among scholars in the research of housing opportunity distribution. One is privilege resource theory, and the other is reallocating market theory. This paper develops one research framework after analyzed the debate thoroughly.Based on the data of Shanghai 2008 Population Census,we discussed how the family background influenced the housing inequality. The results represent that all of the family privilege resource, family educational background and family economic status have an effect on the family house space and house price.Households headed by family educational background and family economic status are in access to larger home space and higher price than are households headed less education and less property. The influence of family educational background is larger than the one of the family economic status. As to the house space, the family administrative status is more important than the family CCP membership. As to the house price, the CCP membership of the family is more important than the administrative status. We also find that family privilege resource has indirect influence on the house inequality by means of economy,power/privilege resource exclusion and latent resource exclusion. These findings are in support of the view of privilege resource theory. The discovery that the effects of family education background becoming significant and turning to be the major influence factor makes expansion to the research.
