On the basis of the systematic analysis about relationship between physical activity and mental health, Proposed the feasibility mechanism sports can promote psychological health of students and the inadequacies of research in the field. Which play an irreplaceable role in the physical and mental development of the students. Currently, the study about the physical activity and mental health is becoming a research hot spot in the field of sports psychology. The research in this area has achieved spectacular results, which provide a basis of Psychology for the reform in physical education curriculum, but for various of reasons, many studies about relationship between the physical activity and mental health only remain in the following aspects in cognitiving theory, summing up phenomenon, describing the experience on the surf ace. This study tries to reveal the relationship between University Sports Elective Course and the mental health of students and expects to Provide a theoretical support for the viewpoint that Sports Elective Course can promote students' mental health. This paper conducts experiments on 625 university students, Compares and analysis the changes in mental health indicators before and after the experiment, using these research methods of literature data, questionnaire, interview, psychological investigation, mathematical statistics, and others. The results show: 1. Sports teaching options s more conducive than traditional physical education to the promotion of mental health.2. Different sports teaching options can promote mental health students mental health, but it differently affects the mental health of students in every dimension. 3. Teaching martial arts options which implements effective Psychological intervention can better promote the mental health of college students.
