| Mr. Wu Yun-rui, who was a sports scholar, was regarded as the soul of the Department of Physical Education in Nanjing Central University in the early Republic of China. After the liberation of China, he became the first president of East China Institute of physical education. But it was uncommon that there was rarely in-depth study on his sports ideological. Based on this fact, the paper analyses his life, academic research and teaching practice, summaries his sports ideological, and then explores his historical position and contribution to the enlightenment of physical education.This study considers that Wu Yun-rui and his contemporaries made great efforts to physical education. They promoted the ideological of physical education, transmitted the education thought of Naturalistic and Pragmatism, which has made Chinese scholars awareness and understanding more profound on the physical education. And it also has promoted the physical education in a scientific, systematic and standardized process, and made China's physical education with the pace of development in the world. He was one of founders of the modern physical education theoretical, the advocate of "academic sports", the founder of sports discipline building.Wu Yun-rui legacy to future generations was his rich and thoughtful sports books. "Kinematics" was the sign of his study on the academic study of physical education; "Sports Pedagogy" was a crystallization of his theory and practice of physical education. And the quintessence of his physical education was reflected in these two books. Such as the academic research goals, the thinking of discipline construction, the ideological basis of discipline construction. "Sports Principle" was absorption of the United States, European countries and China's advanced philosophy, which applied to the results in Physical Education. This book became a classical work in sports theory in 1930's, and it has a great bearing on China's sports circles.His works discussed some basic theories on the physical education, and some of them are still have reference value to the current physical education reform. He had a profound understanding on the basic issues of physical education, the primary goal of physical education, the relationship between the tools and purpose of physical education, the humanities and disciplines of physical education teaching, the dual structure of physical education content, the similarities and differences between teaching and training method in physical education, and the relationship between the main body of students and the mandatory teaching, and so on. And all of these still have inspiration significance to the current physical education reform. |
