College Students Online Teaching Evaluation System Effectiveness Study

With the raising of network technology, it forms advantageous conditions for deepening educational reform in university. Compared to the traditional ways, the Students Assessing Teaching Online (SATO) has a strong capacity of information gathering and processing. However, it does not mean just a technical issue to do this. It involves the relevant education theory. So it cannot analyze and solve the problem of the SATO only from the any one of perspectives.1. It is beneficial for promoting the efficiency of the Assessing Teaching System (ATS) that analyzing adequately the shortcoming of traditional students assessing teaching, the advantage of STAO and its problems in practice. There are some questions in the traditional students assessing teaching, and it includes: not in line with the principle of economical university, not comprehensive of the main assessment participation, the timing of the commentary unreasonable, processing inefficiencies on the data and feedback slowly on the information. In contrast, the SATO has many advantages. However, there are many questions in practice of the SATO. It includes adopting a unified assessment of the indicators without taking the nature , characteristics and major of the courses into accounts, managing and organizing unreasonable of the SATO, and analyzing non- systematic of the information from the SATO.2. The application software is a strong technical supporting for the highly efficient operating of the ATS which based on the real-time, effective, and humane design concepts. In the designing of software, the entire system has three functional modules: assessment module, users browse module and system management module. And the content of the database includes users, administrators, students, teachers, professional, elective and public course information, students'assessment records and teachers'appraisal records. The design also takes the relevant safety measures into full consideration.3. The assessment indicators are the core of the efficient operating system which based on the theory of modern education. In the system improvements of the SATO, it achieved the construction and installing of a reasonable evaluation index system in accordance with the nature of the major and the course, the systematic analysis of the assessment information, and the integrated using with other assessment methods.4. The SATO is a systematic project. It is the foundation of the efficient operation of the SATO for publicizing the purpose and the role of system to the teachers and students in-depth. In the process of the organization and management of SATO, the improvement of circumstance is emphasized, and it includes the publicity guide of the students'and teachers'acts in the process of assessing teaching.The SATO provides a practice test for the theoretical design of this thesis which operating in Southwest University of Science and Technology (SWUST). The AST's operating results show that the SATO provides a large amount of accurate and timely teaching information, and it improves the quality of teaching and the management level of teaching effectively in SWUST.
