Urban Households Children's Social-emotional Neglect Empirical Research

Our nation is in a period of ever changing age of marching toward modernization, urbanization and social reforms. This change of the times surges forward with great momentum, yet complicated and difficult. Tradition, modernization and post-modernization are compacted into the same time channel where people's living surroundings change a lot. The drastic change of the social structure which has great influence on the individual's and even the families' mentality and behaviors leads to the increasing juvenile psychological problems and behavioral problems. The stern reality makes it all the more pressing to solve the social emotional problems.This essay is a case study about the social negligence of the urban children's emotional requirements from the perspective of families. Based upon the investigation of the children who are under the nine-year obligatory educational system, this paper tempts to analyze the social negligence of the urban children's mentality. The author focuses on analyzing the present situation and the governing factors and the results of this negligence before proposing some available strategies to cope with this hard nut in the present world..This paper puts forward three hypotheses: One is that the degree of children emotional negligence is affected by the family structures. The other is that the degree of children emotional negligence is affected by the parents' educational background, the family income and the parents' sense of emotional communication. The third is that the degree of children emotional negligence is affected by social surroundings. The author's investigation and the concerning literature in this field prove the validity of all these three hypotheses. After much laborious research, the author comes to the conclusions that the family structure is the vital element leading to this severe social problem as the impaired families tend to affect the children's more. In addition, the parents' sense of emotional communication and their educational degree will also affect the children's mentality growth. When the family income plays a multi-dimensional part in this social problem, the social surroundings make the matter worse. In the final touch, after analyzing the severe effects brought by the children mentality negligence upon the individuals and the society as well, the author put forward several practical solutions to help the matter out.
