There are at least two meanings of Caring in Chinese. Caring was a way of cultivating students in China's moral education, but this never became a theory system and had a great effect. Since the establishment of Caring Theory in 1980's with Noddings' effort, it has been 20 years. Now the Caring Theory has developed into a systematic theory with its influence in many countries and regions in the world.With China's rapid economic growth, more and more problems are emerging, demoralization, for instance. The whole society cares too much about the curriculums of science & technology, Engineering, mathematics and so on, while the Moral Education, Literature, Art etc. have been deserted. Because of this educational system, people become the abstract symbols in the mathematic calculation, the goal of our education is to cultivate them into those with strong reasoning ability, so people become more and more desperate inside and separate, but less emotional for others. Many suggestions have been raised for the problems in the current moral education, the Theory of Moral Education Conducted in Children's Everyday Life is a good example. In this theory, children are seen as the existence of the mankind, and they are no different from the adult. The children's life has been emphasized in this theory, which is the whole of the moral education. After comparing this theory with Noddings' Caring Theory, some similarities have been detected, they emphasize that the existence of the children is the premise of the moral education, they both care about the students' real needs, and the need for freedom. These two theories think that the goal of the moral education is to cultivate students' pursuit for freedom & morality. But I am just trying to see to the problems in China's moral education from another angle. |
