The theory of multiple intelligences (MI) was a kind of intelligence theories by Professor Howard Gardner of Harvard University Graduate School of Education in 1983. This theory deemed that humankind has 8 intelligences, have challenged the theory of traditional single intelligence; have offered a new basis of theory for personality development and comprehensive development of people, and became one of the most important theories that instructed reforms of education and teaching in the world, has caused extensive concern in education domain, and has got obvious effect that applied this theory in element education practice. At the present time, China are reforming element education curriculums, the theory there are a lot of good ideas deserve us to use for reference . So MI has the consequence for reform of education and teaching practice.Geography education is an important part of element education, it could make students that erect the right standpoints of the relationships about human and environment and continuable development. But former curriculum of geography was restricted by the subject system, because the contents of teaching were difficult and complex so students studied very hard. On the other hand, because the system of teachings and evaluations were rigescence so students couldn't were aroused the study interest and couldn't apply geographic knowledge to resolve the practice problems of geography. MI theory has important value in geography teaching practice. The new standard of geographic curriculum put forward "To learn useful geography for live, to learn useful geography for development of life." Etc. new ideas of geography study, the goal are bring up citizen who have necessary geography knowledge. In terms of teaching method, new standard advocate inquire learning and construct the opening geography curriculum by modern IT technology, to establish the system of evaluations that stress both learning course and learning result. These ideas are same with MI; and the basic knowledge and skill of geography can establish organic relation with each intelligence of MI theory, making MI could play a important role in the geography teaching. Applying the MI in the practice of geography teaching, will get active effect that improve teaching method, perfect system of evaluation and promote to achieve the goal of geography education.
