The junkman in the city is a special social group, this dissertation investigation the group of the junkman in Nanjing city by participated observing in field investigation. It is to show the survival state, the realistic reflection and effect of the junkman by studying the living scene and group structure.The junkman is the result of certain historical and social condition whose social productivity and living style change by the mistrial and realistic condition. Since 1990s, they have transferred from traditional collecting castoff to professional or half-professional and taker of waste and old material occupation and it seem to appearance obvious stratum and step inside of the junkman. There are three stratums that are the collect-junkman, the floating-junkman, the put-junkman. But for, the three groups have difference in values and forming the mutual pattern.The junkman has an effect in urban and rural area because of their dual certification. It is a low-cost migration for rural work force to pick up wastes into city .The group has a needful effect for recovering and putting back to use in city at present. But at the same time it causes some social work and hidden trouble because of lacking of effectual social administrator and guiding and their brink status. Thus, it will be a compulsory solving problem for administrator in city by deeply inspects the groups' true survival state, establishing normative waste and old materials business, and guiding rural labor force working the industry in order.
