With the dramatic development of China's economy and the boosting of industrialization, urbanization has become a popular sign of the development of economy and society. Whereas, in China's process of urbanization there have happened a series of problems. For example, how to choose an appropriate urbanization way for a city according to its conditions is one of the most important problems.With a vast territory, there are many different characteristics in different regions in China. Since the opening and reform, Zhejiang province has gained the dramatic development of economy, and has become one of the best vital regions in Southeast. However, a chief characteristic of the urbanization in Zhejiang province is that small towns have a large quantitative expansion, a dispense layout and a fast development speed.Aiming at this characteristic, this essay chooses medium and small cities as the research object, selects Cixi City as an example, and probes into and explains emphatically the problem "the choice of the urbanization way for these medium and small cities". This essay begins with status in quo in Cixi city, and analysizes influencing factors in urbanization from the four aspects: economy factors, population factors, location factors, and resource and evironment factors. At last, we come to a conclusion: Cixi city should accelerate the expansion of the city's size, and become a big city with a population amount between 500-1000 thousand in 10-20 years. At the same time, we try to come to a common revelational conclution for the whole medium and small cities in Zhejiang province.
