The 21century is an era that witnesses the rapid emergence of the knowledge economy. In this era the strategy of talents will play a more significant role, more emphasis will be placed upon human development and more attention will be paid to the humanistic management. Such terms as the humanistic notion, i.e., "taking humans as the foundation", and "humanistic management" frequently appear within the field of our vision. The humanistic concept gradually permeates the whole process of management, which not only upgrades the quality of management but also considerably mobilizes the initiative of people, which is the primary element of productivity, thus ushering in the epoch-making progress in management. Therefore, it is of both theoretical value and practical significance to study the essential connotation of this novel concept of humanistic management as well as to apply the concept to solving the problems encountered in the managerial practice. The present thesis carries out an explorative study mainly by focusing on the four aspects as follows. The first part traces the source of the humanistic notion of management to ancient Chinese culture in order to tap the excellence of the culture and thought of our ancestors to be utilized today. The second part studies the theoretical assumption of "human nature" in managerial thinking of the West so as to examine the evolutionary process of the concept of humanistic management. The third part attempts to extract the connotation of the concept of humanistic management, which boils down to the following points: the complete human being serves as the starting point and the final settling place for the concept of humanistic management; the value orientation of the humanistic notion of management is set towards respect, trust and understanding; the means of this notion of management is by inspiring, activating people's creative potential; the ultimate end of the humanistic concept of management is to realize the objective of creating a win-win situation between the individual and the organization. The fourth part explores the applicability of the notion of humanistic management to the managerial practice in kindergartens. It is suggested that in the management of kindergartens we should take as fundamental the development of teachers, renew the concept of management, respect the position of teachers as the subjects; set up a scientific managerial model for selecting and employing people, establish effective motivating mechanism; combine institutional management with affective management; cultivate organizational culture and coordinate the goal of individual growth with that of the development of the kindergarten; and improve the quality of all those whose work it is to manage the kindergarten in order to truly put into practice the notion of humanistic management.
