Education is a social phenomenon. Education emerges with the emergence of the human race, and develops with the development of the human society. The conflicts between social productivity and production relationship provoke the course of social development. The development of education is connected to the status of social productivity, while it also shares a close relation with certain production relationships, the political regime that reflects such relationships, and the current ideologies. Education is also closely related to the stability and prosperity of a country or a region.The promotion of education is indispensable for a region to develop its economy and to raise the living qualities of its people. Macau had been under Portuguese governance for four hundred years. As the Portuguese policy neither supported to nor interfered with local education, education develops in a diversified manner in Macau. Nowadays, the characteristic of diversity is deeply rooted in the society. While there has been voices for diversification in all aspects of development in the world, diversification in education has also been of much concern by local and foreign scholars. There are a number of emerging research issues in recent years, such as using diversified education to promote the intellectual development of youngsters and raising the teaching quality with diversified education. In the meantime, the study on diversified education is still a new issue. Hence, this essay takes a bold attempt of studying and investigating the question of diversification in the education in Macau.The diversified manner of primary and secondary education is a historical question. It is also an issue of reformation. This essay first takes an in-depth analysis of the historical diversification of primary and secondary education in Macau in the past centuries. Along with associating the practical situation in Macau with the global development trends in education, some suggestions are made for the future development of diversification in primary and secondary education in Macau.The first part of the essay is the introduction: giving a brief illustration of the objective of the topic, research objects and methods.The second part investigates the current diversified regime in the primary and secondary education in Macau in various aspects such as education systems, education investments, and education services.The third part analyzes the historical reasons in the aspects of education organizations and public education governance for the diversification in the primary and secondary education in Macau.The fourth part discusses how diversification in primary' and secondary education in Macau is preserved and ratified in accordance with the Basic Law after the Handover.In the last part summing up the historical reasons, the conclusion is that it is worthwhile to preserve the diversification in primary and secondary education in Macau. Certain suggestions are also made for the future development of diversification in primary and secondary education in Macau.
