Western development is going to be our country抯 most important strategic aim from now on, with educational support for the poor as one of its hot issues. There have occurred many macroscopic researches and documents in terms of the problems in development as well as in education conditions in the western rural areas, in the ethnic groups and in the remote backward areas. However, the microcosmic, which is relatively inadequate, is of great realistic significance. Merged with the practice of educational support for the poor, starting with some case studies on the educational support for the poor, this paper manages to exploit some effective ways to support the poor in the ethnic groups through education, This paper also analyzes the reasons which affect the development of education in these regions.On the basics of relevant literatures, the researcher has looked into and studied the objects, which include school management, the principals and the teachers, through the comprehensive utilization of interviews, questionnaires, practical operations as well. This survey results in the following points of view.(1)Educational development in these regions is in the period of seeking for quantity at the cost of quality. It is urgently needed to improve the quality and to reduce waster.(2)The principals in these areas being poorly-trained and shortly posted, the postsbeing instable, these factors greatly influence the running of schools and their qualities.(3)The limit of education for teachers who lack of special trainings, being conservative and large gaps in abilities prevent the enhancement of instruction quality and the education reforms.(4)Educational support necessitates the investment of funds as well as materials. However, its key point is to guarantee the trainings of both school leaders and teachers and to renew some out-of-date ideas.(5)Unitary textbooks, monotonous and simple teaching methodologies, teachers?insufficient attentions to experiments as well as real objects, and the fact that some curricula separate themselves from the students?foundation and the social needs, are part of the reasons to high rate of students drifting from schools.(6)Strategies for educational support for the poor and the ethnic groups are put forward.
