The development of compulsory education curriculum reform grows vigorously in the nationwide. The second curriculum reform in Shanghai is also blossoming. One of the remarkable aspects of the middle school geography reform is the growing attention to the geography classroom teaching. The classroom interaction is an important part of the geography teaching, creating a lively classroom atmosphere, enhancing students’ learning motivation and helping teachers to learn more about students’ needs. With the development of geography curriculum reform, more and more educationalists realize that instead of emphasizing book knowledge and conclusions we should value students’ learning experiences and guide them to learn geography in daily life. Also, many teachers are aware of the close connection between classroom interaction and classroom availability. However, the interaction of middle school geography class is a complex dynamic structure. A simple qualitative analysis lowers the analysis credibility due to a lot of subjective factors and also a simple quantitative analysis could be one-sided and without noticing the shining points of students.Based on the Flanders interaction analysis model(FIAS), the content of this paper is about the high school geography classroom interaction behavior research, which adopts the methods of documentary method and video analysis.First, based on the original framework of Flanders interaction analysis evaluation scale and combining geography classroom teaching practices, I have worked out a new geography classroom interaction evaluation scale. Data of high quality geography class is collected through ten representative high school geography classroom videos with my new geography classroom interaction evaluation scale.Second, I use the matrix and ratio analysis methods to study class interaction data and complete the research with my classroom observation records. Problems of nowadays geography classroom interaction include:(1) teachers’ teaching behaviors dominate the class;(2) students’ interaction is inadequate;(3) classroom interaction is lack of emotion communication;(4) the number of geography classroom activity is small and with no availability.Third, according to the research, factors affecting geography class interaction include:(1) teachers’ rigid educational concepts;(2) teachers’ inadequate lesson preparation;(3) students’ development features;(4) lack of related researches and theoretical guidance;(5) no effective class interaction evaluation tool and no teaching reflection.Last, methods and strategies of improving geography class interaction are:(1) to correct teachers’ wrong interaction concepts;(2) to encourage students to voluntarily interact with teachers;(3) to enhance the emotional communication between teachers and students;(4) to improve class interaction designs and increase activity effectiveness.
