Experiments are the content, methods and means of the teaching of physics,therefore experiments play an indispensable part in the teaching of physics. TheCurriculum Standards of Regular Senior Middle School Physics (Experimental) hasenhanced the teaching of experiment, in which the content, the number as well as theway of presentation of experiments are quite different from what is required in theFull-time Regular Senior Middle School Physics Syllabus (Test&Revised Edition).The Curriculum Standards also has many new requirements for the equipping ofexperimental apparatus, teachers’ experimental skills and the teaching methods ofexperiments.Yunnan province has implemented the new regular senior middle schoolcurriculum since the autumn of2009. In order to know well the current situation ofphysics experiment teaching in senior middle schools of Dali, Yunnan, the authorcarried out a survey and the related practical research on the situation. The mainpoints of this essay are as follows.1. With a comprehensive analysis of the related documents, the textbookswritten under the guidance of the new curriculum and reference books, the essayanalyses and concludes the differences between the new curriculum and the previoussyllabus on the content, the number and the approaches of presentation ofexperiments, thus provides theoretical basis for the choice of the purpose of thesurvey, the design of the questionnaires and the analysis of the findings.2. Inquiries and interviews focusing on the situation of physics experimentteaching, teachers’ attitude towards it, the development of experimental apparatusand students’ leaning situation have been carried out among teachers and students in10senior middle schools of Dali, Yunnan.3. The essay analyses the current situation of high school physics experimentteaching according to the obtained statistics and has found some common problems.The essay therefore puts forward some suggestions such as renewing the notion of physics experiment teaching, making full use of available teaching resources,integrating teaching methods, diversifying teaching modes and conductingexperiments flexibly with teachers’ initiative.4. In order to examine the effectiveness and feasibility of the suggestions putforward on physics experiment teaching, the author chose two classes randomlyamong the12grade1classes of Xiaguan No.1Middle School and made a half-termpractical teaching research. One class was taught with optimized approaches whilethe contrast class with traditional mode.5. The author recorded students’ marks in every physics test during the processand carried out pre-tests and post-tests on students’ interest and ability to learnphysics, then processed the statistics with Excel and Spss10.0on computer. Thehorizontal differentiations were processed with z inspection.The research shows that renewing the notion of physics experiment teaching,making full use of teaching equipment, integrating teaching methods, diversifyingteaching modes, bringing teachers’ initiative into play to conduct experimentsflexibly can optimize physics experiment teaching, improve students’ performanceon physics and improve their interest and their ability to learn the subject.
