In 2004, there are 4 editions of textbook passed the initial review of Teaching Material of Middle and Primary School Authorized Committee: People’s education edition(published by People’s Education Press), National edition(published by Sinomaps Press), Hu Nan edition(published by Hu Nan Education Press) and Shang Dong edition(published by Shan Dong Education Press). With the reform in curriculum further on, these four editions of textbook are currently used by experimental provinces nationwide. Under the unified Geography Curriculum Standard, each edition has its respetive feature, but there is one thing in common, all the editions include a lot of student activities.This thesis is based on a review of the historical development of China’s geography textbook and a summary of the current study of " activity issue" in the textbook. The author did a comparative study on the four editions of textbook (Compulsory Three) in respect of the quantity of activity, the type of activity, designing style of the activity and activity feature. The study results showed that the activity design of all the four editions are normally fit the curriculum standard. There are all kinds of activities and the design is distinctive. However, there are some problems in the manner, difficulty and implementation of student activity. Therefore, this thesis did an exploration on the design of the student activity and gave some suggestions on it.
