| The question of hegemony and hegemonism is an important one for study in the areas of the theories of the international politics and the international relations. In the study of this question, many experts and scholars at home and aboard have spent so much that they have reaped rich fruits.Since the very beginning of the 20th century, the interaction of economic globalization, political multipolarization and cultural pluralization complete the complex features of our age. Under these conditions, there are some changes in the hegemony and hegemonism. Then, compared with the traditional hegemony, what are the features of American new hegemonism after the period of the cold war? Why does America have political inclination of hegemonism strongly? Whether America pursues the policy of hegemonism for ever or not in the further? Whether it is "American Century" in the 21th century? Since America pursues the policy of hegemonism, what is the influence of this for international relation?And what does China do to deal with it? ...It is of theoretical and practicalsignificance to do some comprehensive research and study about these question.Here, in order to understand and grasp the essence of American hegemonism, I' d like to start with the analysis of the features of American new hegemonism and to emphatically analyze the reasons for which America has such kind of political inclination. Besides, there are some analyses about the problems that American hegemonism is facing under the conditions of economic globalization, political multipolarization and cultural pluralization. The object of this analysis is an attempt to come up with some suggestions to handle the relations between China and the United States correctly and to accomplish the peaceful rise of our great Chinese nation.The dissertation divides into five parts altogether:In the first part, the conceptions of hegemony, hegemonism and new hegemonism are given.In the second part, the features of American new hegemonism after the period of the cold war are pointed out by starting with the analysis of the relations between American new hegemonism and the traditional one. There are fourfeatures of American new hegemonism: Firstly, American hegemonism is a kind of global hegemony after the period of the cold war. Secondly, American new hegemonism is a kind of hegemony which combines "soft power" with "hard power" . Thirdly, American new hegemonism is a kind of hegemony which is a mechanism supported by the incomparable strength. Fourthly, American new hegemonism is a kind of hegemonism whose natures of fraudulence and guise are covered up by "new interventionism" .It is the profound backgrounds that make American foreign policy have the feature of strong hegemonism. Therefore, the third part emphasizes on the profound backgrounds and conditions under which American hegemonism comes up after the period of the cold war. On one hand, America holds a safe lead in the overall national power, which has a solid foundation on the most advanced technology. It is best known in the areas of national economic strength, military strength and new opportunities brought by the economic globalization. On the other hand, the racial sense of superiority born with the formation of the United States of America, existing in American traditional social values. Besides, on the point of theoretical basis for international relations, many theories such as realism and idealism have great influences on American foreign policy and these theories finally form the theoretical foundation for American foreign aggrandizement.In the fourth part, the problems that American hegemony is facing are given the emphasis. More and more factors in reality hold up the practice of American foreign aggrandizement, although America has incomparable strength.
