Strategic culture is the cultural background that strongly affect decision makers when foreign policy is making. Strategic culture derives from geopolitical environment and history,and depends on political philosophy ,culture and cognitive characteristics of domestic elites. The study of strategic culture should explain three questions: firstly, how does a state look upon international system it belongs to? Secondly, what are key benefits that a state try to obtain in the process of diplomacy? And finally, in which way would a state try to protect its benefits?China is a country with ancient civilization, ancient Chinese thinkers left lots of thoughts on national security and national interests in the past several thousand years. These thoughts have shaped a kind of strategic culture with distinct Chinese characteristics,and profoundly affects the China's diplomatic activities. The Communist Carty of China gets the rich heritage of ancient China's strategic culture, meanwhile its own strategic culture also keeps advancing with the times. Researching on CPC's strategic culture is a important way to understand CPC's foreign policy making.The first chapter of this dissertation reviews the basic characteristics of ancient China's strategic culture and its transformation in modern times ,which is the source of CPC's strategic culture .And then the author will researching on all previous national congresses of the Communist Party of China as a clue to analyze the characteristics of CPC's strategic culture in four different historical period, and also try to explain its formation reasons and influences. In the second chapter, a text analysis will be done to find out the characteristics of CPC in the period between its first National Party Congress and the sixth National Party Congress, and point out that in this period CPC's strategic culture has distinct characteristics of ideology; In the third chapter, a text analysis will be done to find out the characteristics of CPC in the period between its seventh National Party Congress and the eighth National Party Congress, and point out that in this period CPC tried to get rid of the influence of ideology. Meanwhile, the observation of the world and the arrangement of diplomatic work was guided by the interests of the nation; In the fourth chapter, a text analysis will be done to find out the characteristics of CPC in the period between its ninth National Party Congress and the eleventh National Party Congress, and point out that in this period CPC was strongly affected by the Ultra-left thinking, CPC leaders believed that the themes of times is'war and revolution', under which the arrangement of diplomatic work was guided. However, in the 1970s,the arrangement of diplomatic work was adjusted to make sure state security; In the fifth chapter, a text analysis will be done to find out the characteristics of CPC in the period between its twelfth National Party Congress and the seventeenth National Party Congress, and point out that in this period CPC comes to realize that"peace and development'are the themes of our times. The arrangement of diplomatic work has been adjusted for the sake of national interest, especially for the domestic economic construction. Also in this period, CPC tries to safeguard national interests by more effective ways.
