In long-term nomadic life,the Mongols tamed the five major kinds of the livestock, including horse, cattle, camel, sheep and goat. The names of livestocks formed the special semantic filed in Mongolian language. There are the concept of " the six livestock" in Chinese, and they are horse, cattle, sheep (or goat), pig, dog and chicken. However, there are several reasons for this, namely, the living envirnment, the culture characteristics, the life style and custom that result in the semantic fileds of differences between the mongolian and Chinese language.This paper mainly studies the correspondence mongolian the Chinese livestock's names. Through comparing, analyzed the structure and semantic features of the name of five livestock.The preface briefly introduced the background, significance, research methods and general research situation.In the first chapter, compared the structure characteristics of mongolian and Chinese five livestock's names.In the second chapter, analysis the meaning of the names with the semantic field theory, seme analysis and lexical gap, .In the third chapter, preliminary discussed the mongolian and Chinese motivation characteristic of the names .In the conclusion, summarizes the main contents of the thesis.
