| Middle ancient times is a critical period to Chinese history research connecting link, in which there had been quite a lot of new linguistic phenomena.To make a good study of the Chinese language in this time is the basis of Chinese history research. Courtesy appellation is not only the basic lexis of Chinese,but also an important means of the allegations. Chinese perspective law can be deduced from general situation,the characteristics,origin and develpment of courtesy appellation of the middle ancient times.Therefore, we investigated representative classics of the middle ancient times,and made a more comprehensive description and explanation of the courtesy appellation.We investigated 25 honorific titles of the middle ancient times,4 of which carried on as before ,5 of which were former ones but the object or degree was new,16 of which came into being.Also we investigated 17 modest titles,3 of which were the same meanings as before,5 of which were former ones but the object or degree was new, 9 of which came into being.Through the survey we found that the characteristics of courtesy appellation in middle ancient times are: first, two-syllable words developed rapidly;second,with regard to the word construction,the endocentric construction was the main method,the complement one took the second place and very few other ways, and some morphemes that mean honorific or modest came into being;third,a lot of special honorific titles but extensive honorific titles absent; fourth,many nones honorific-indicated often added to surnames or names ; fifth, some monosyllabic honorific titles to the second person pronoun were the trends of transformation . At the same time, we found that during the middle ancient time the derivation of the courtesy appellation were mainly meaning-extended, meaning-substituted, grammar-transformed. Finally, we analysed the deep cultural significance of courtesy appellation ,which will help us to better understand courtesy appellation of the middle ancient times. |
