Yiyue of Shuowen is always striking people of all the past dynasties. In this article, the author also tries to analyze the cause, classification, contents, and the true or false of the term Yiyue.The development of Chinese brought about the appearance of polysemous words, Xushen used the term Yiyue strictly to singe them when he wrote the book Shuowen. Yiyue contains there classifications: the explanations of the Chinese character's configuration, pronunciation and meaning. The explanation of the character's meaning is the main of Yiyue. It is complex and contains five classifications: 1.Yiyue refers to borrow meaning from another word. 2. Yiyue refers to extend meaning. 3. Yiyue refers to the vernacular language. 4. Yiyue refers to another meaning. 5. Yiyue refers to another name.The author also discussed the true or false about the Yiyue. We can conclude that there are four kinds of Yiyue we can consider it false: 1.the meaning Yiyue refers to is the same of the original meaning of the word. 2. the meaning Yiyue refers to is cited from the classical books. 3. the meaning Yiyue refers to is the word which is resemblance. 4. the word'Yiyue'can be deleted actually.
