Yan Yanzhi(384-456), courtesy name Yannian, was from Linyi in Langya(now Linyi in Shandong Province). In Liu-Song Dynasty, Yan Yanzhi, Xie Linyun and Bao Zhao were ranked"the Three Masters of Yuan Jia". What's more, according to Zhong Rong, Yan had even surpassed Bao Zhao, and was second only to Xie, the hero poet of Yuan Jia Stage. Excelled in writing the Noble Poem, Yan set an unparalleled example for ages with his beautiful and elegant style. Intersecting the development of ancient Chinese Poetry, Yan's work is an indispensable part of Yuan Jia style, as well as a crucial link of the chain. It is one of the most important mainstays of Yuan Jia Poetry, which was a bridge connecting the old style poetry and the Tang Poetry. Therefore, the research of Yan's poetry is rich at value and significance. Divided into five chapters, this thesis is a comprehensive and systematic study of Yan's poetry through form and content, analyzing it's distinguishing feature and the reason why the Yuan Jia Poetry was cut into three parts.
