On The Characteristics Of The Japanese Proverb

Proverbs are not only the pith of a nation's language, also can reflect the cultural characteristic of a nation. Japanese proverbs are the distillate of wisdom of Japanese people. There are some distinct features in expression forms. The emphasis of previous study on Japanese proverbs was mostly on the ideological contents. In this thesis, the expression forms of Japanese proverbs are mainly discussed in the view of linguistic point. What's more, the author makes a comprehensive analysis of the features of Japanese proverbs.First, based on the definition of Japanese proverbs, by introducing some examples of daily Japanese proverbs, the author systematically analyzes the characteristic of the language structure of Japanese proverbs. For instance, Japanese proverbs lay much stress on the phoneme and the rhythm, and the abbreviation forms are mostly used as well as some fixed sentence patterns. Next, the author expatiates on the characteristic of words choice and the rhetoric in Japanese proverbs. Finally, the author analyzes the expressions of Japanese proverbs in detail and makes a summary of its national characteristic.
