Broken Mountain Hamming Zen Study

This article was a case research to Sichuan Zen master Poshan Haiming who lived in the end of the Ming dynasty, including aspects and so on time background, life story, thought, influence and status which its located, mainly was the thought aspect.Poshan was a famous Buddhist monk in the end of the Ming dynasty who made tremendous contribution to promote the Sichuan zen .some people had already researched him;studying Poshan Haiming has vital significance.The end of the Ming dynasty was a special historical period.In this time society turbulence, the political corruption, the chaos caused by war was frequent.But this is only its one side,its other aspect is actually brilliant.In this time, our country earliest capitalism seed generated,the initial democratic initiation thought appeared,meanwhile the earliest thorough China and the West exchange after Ming Dynasty had been carried out.Poshan Haiming (1597～1666), Dazhu County Sichuan, lay surname Jian, family background famous family, but looked through the human affairs, became a monk in 19 years old.Later he leaved Sichuan and visited Hanshan Deqing,Wuyi Yuanlai,Wengu Guangyin,Xueqiao Yuanxin, Zhanran Yuancheng,Miyun Yuanwu six senior monks, finally became Miyun's child law disciple.Later he returned to Sichuan to propagated the Buddhist doctrines, establishing Shuanggui Shan denomination . At that time Shuanggui Shan denomination was known far and wide.since then Shuanggui Shan denomination lasted to the near modern age,and becomes the southwest Buddhism's main body in the Ming and Qing Dynasties . Poshan Haiming had rich Zen thought which mainly included four aspects: The theories of Mind-nature, Zen,School,Pure Land,Monastic discipline ,the education of monks,the Confucianism,Buddhism, Daoism gather one.He advocated everybody has the Buddha-nature.Although he maintained there was different in Zen,School,Pure Land,Monastic discipline,but he advocated they all are the convenient methods. He attached great importance to the education of monks, and thought this was the key to promote Buddhism. Finally, he advocated the Confucianism, Buddhism, Daoism gather one, the Confucianism, Buddhism, Daoism share evverything, the fit and unfit quality.In addition, Poshan proposed some study methods, including: The relations of awakening and study, understanding life and death, pondering thread of conversations, the relations of studying by oneself and learning from others.He thought the awakening and study must depend upon mutually, understanding life and death is the key to awaken,pondering thread of conversations is the main method, teaching yourself and learning from others should unify.His these thought and methods brought forth new ideas,had further enriched the zen especially Sichuan zen's study theory system.Poshan Haiming had tremendous influence in that time, the officials and gentry supported him, the soldiers and civilians believed and respected his Buddhist doctrines.he propagated the Buddhist doctrines broadly and had many disciples.he was the important zen personages in the end of the Ming dynasty, helding the important status in zen history ,especially the Sichuan zen history.
