Historically, Hong Kong is part of the mainland China. However, owing to some historical factors, Hong Kong became a colony of the British United Kingdom. Thus, although Hong Kong had been handed back to the Chinese government in 1997, the economic and cultural differences are obvious between China mainland and Hong Kong. And these differences are even more outstanding is the field of literature and art. The phenomenon is worth to study. This thesis focuses on the field of television drama series script writing. The present writer has been engaged in the field of script-writing for 19 years. Since 1988, after the graduation from the University of Hong Kong, major in English Studies & Comparative Literature, I joined the Television Broadcasts Limited (HK), as a script writer, and promoted to script supervisor after several years. During this period, I had written and supervised more than 50 TV drama series, over 1000 episodes, the duration of each episode is 45 minutes. After the resignation from Television Broadcasts Limited, I have been to mainland China to further my career. From 1996 to now, over 700 episodes of TV drama series had been written. I had learned much from the working experiences in mainland China and Hong Kong. Afterward, I studied in the Shanghai Theatre Academy as a graduate student, in which, the range of study is"Script creation: theory and practice". I have studied different factions of drama writing, as well as the theories. It is hoped that the studies in the Academy and the experiences in script writing will help the investigation of the future development of dramatic works.
